Christopher And Grandma On Safari
Two young boys from different countries become good friends when Christopher goes on safari with Grandma. Parting is not easy for Christopher. He will miss his new friend when he returns to America. Moses' father reminds the boys of an old belief, that if they can see the little brown giraffe then they will meet again someday. The search is on! Their last day on safari is spent in the safari van hunting for the little brown giraffe with the help of Grandma and Julius, their guide.
The pursuit, of course, is with cameras. In the reserves, the animals are protected. Illustrations by Carol Mathis for this story were based on photographs taken while the author was on safari with her husband, daughter, and friends. They stayed at Kichwa Tembo on the edge of the Maasai Mara, a game reserve in Kenya.
Included in the story is the Goodbye Song, a traditional Swahili song that was sung by the waiters in their camp. The Swahili, Maasai, and English translations are in the book, but the author is still searching for the music.
